Visiting Cloverdale, Oregon

I love Cloverdale. It has a cute downtown area just six miles from Pacific City with wonderful local service providers and shop owners. If you’re looking for a unique gift, a new rainy day hobby, car parts, pet supplies, or a little snack, Cloverdale has what you need. 

 

How Big is Cloverdale, Oregon?

Cloverdale’s entire downtown stretch is just 0.1 miles, making it a great place to stretch your legs, even with kiddos, kill some time, and grab a snack or a one-of-a-kind souvenir to commemorate your visit.

Shopping is the main attraction in Downtown Cloverdale. There are also two beautiful art galleries to visit as well. Here’s a guide to plan for your next winter visit.

 

The Rusty Cow

Any day you’re visiting, start your shopping spree at The Rusty Cow, which is open seven days a week. The Rusty Cow has a refreshing mix of old and new, featuring merchandise from as many as 27 local vendors at a time. The store offers an ever-changing array of furniture, clothing, quilts, records, kitchen items, gifts, greeting cards, and more. It’s our small-town USA shopping mall! Every time you go in, you’ll find something new that brings you joy. This is a great place to support local artists and collectors.

 

Nestucca Creamery

Unless you’re visiting on a Monday or Sunday, you MUST stop by the Nestucca Creamery. Here, they serve homemade ice cream with fresh fruit and flavorings blended to order. They also have all the delicious meats and cheeses to make a charcuterie board that will delight your host or guests. The shop’s free samples will help you choose the best cheeses for your palette. You can’t go wrong – they’re all delicious! The creamery also sells local wines, ciders, and beers to take with you. Take your time and look around!

 

Tillamook Feed and Farm Store

This is the rural coast’s pet store. In addition to food, treats, toys, and accessories for cats and dogs, you’ll find locals buying feed for their farm animals and farm care supplies. Venture into the refrigerated and frozen section to pick out some locally-made Tillamook cheese and ice cream without having to trek up to Tillamook. These cheeses and ice creams are known and loved locally and nationwide for their rich flavor. If you’ve never tried it, it’s guaranteed to make your tastebuds dance.

 

Rod and Reel, Wool and Wheel

Open Tuesday through Saturday, stop into this hobby shop and meet the owners, Jim and Grace. These two locals turned their retirement hobbies into a store, and they are having a great time doing it. If you fish, ask Jim for his plethora of knowledge about the sport and pick up any gear you need for a day on the river or the ocean. If spinning, knitting, or weaving is more your speed – or something you’ve always wanted to try – Grace will show you how it’s done, and get you all the supplies you need to continue your project at home.

 

Istanbul Rug Bazaar

This is not only a rug store, but also an art gallery. The Rug Bazaar has a plethora of rugs with all different designs and color patterns. The rugs represent an art form that dates back more than 2,500 years. All the rugs in the shop are made purely of wool, naturally dyed, with no synthetics –– which comes with many advantages. Mehmet, the owner, and his staff also repair rugs. The store is open Wednesday through Sunday, 11 AM to 4 PM, and other times by appointment.

 

Napa Auto Parts Cloverdale

Looking for an auto parts store near Pacific City? Napa in Cloverdale is the closest, and they are open every day, except Sunday. It’s always a good idea to check your car’s “vitals” before you head out of town from the coast, especially if you’re taking Route 6 (Wilson River Highway). Headlights, windshield wipers, and oil are very important during the rainy season.

 

Art Galleries in Cloverdale, Oregon

Burkhardt Gallery

The Burkhardt Gallery is a fine art gallery in Cloverdale, Oregon, displaying the work of Owner Marilyn Burkhardt. She is a multi-media artist who creates beautiful oil paintings, original prints, fine art reproductions, encaustics, suminagashi (Japanese Paper Marbling), greeting cards, ceramic tiles, pen and ink illustrations, clay work, and bronze sculptures. Marilyn’s work is also on display in the form of murals at the Hebo Post Office and the South Tillamook County Library in Pacific City.

 

Shrine Gallery

Shrine Gallery showcases fine art wood sculptures created by Jay Ylvisaker, who has been an artist his whole life. Jay creates small sacred spaces that revere wood and nature, and reveal people’s connection to them. He creates his work using archetypal sacred forms and synthesizes them into his own structural language. The Gallery is located in the same building as Heart In Hand Chiropractic, run by Dr. Athena Paradise.

Jay’s gallery is open by appointment only in the winter (January–early March). Appointments can be made by calling +1-503-936-1936. The gallery will open for regularly scheduled hours starting in March. Check back then for an update!

Cloverdale Weekend Shops, Galleries and Hours

Best View in Cloverdale, Oregon

If you’re done shopping, and you ate all the cheese and ice cream your heart desired, don’t leave just yet! Drive or walk up the hill via Campground Street, Bridge Street, or Parkway Drive to discover a beautiful panoramic view of the local area. You’ll see forests, mountains, farms, the river, and downtown Cloverdale from above. If you are looking for something extra special, come here to see the sunrise or sunset.

Nestucca River, Cloverdale

Another great view is of the Nestucca River. The best place to see it is from the bridge adjacent to the creamery. Be sure to stay off to the side and watch for cars. If you have a few minutes to spare, you may spot some interesting critters. The river provides high-quality habitat for bald eagles, northern spotted owls, red tree voles, marbled murrelets, and the coastal giant salamander.

The Nestucca River originates in the northern Oregon Coast Range and flows for 53 miles to where it meets the Pacific Ocean at Nestucca Bay. The Nestucca River hosts one of the most productive anadromous fisheries in all of Oregon. In the spring, this river remains the only known breeding site for harlequin ducks in the Oregon Coast Range.

🚨PLEASE DRIVE SLOW 🚨

The speed limit through town is 25 MPH. There are pedestrians and regular traffic to and from Nestucca High School and Tillamook Bay Community College. Be mindful and look out for crosswalks, kids, dogs, and critters.

 

Parking in Cloverdale, Oregon

As soon as you enter Cloverdale, heading south toward Pacific City, there will be a parking lot on your right across from the Napa Auto Parts store. If you’re coming from the south, drive all the way through town and it will be on your left, just past Center Market. If you park here, check out this signpost that will tell you more about the local area.

 

There is also plenty of street parking in Cloverdale, as well as to the east of 101 on the residential streets. Drive slow and you’ll have no problem finding a spot.

Linda, owner of Curious Treasures, is a self-proclaimed plant lady and creator of beautiful spaces. Her store features goods made by local artisans – whom she affectionately refers to as her “artsy and craftsy friends” – including soaps, beard oils, scents, jewelry, art, knitwear, and all sorts of other stuff. Curious Treasures always has a fun variety of beautiful Kokedama, succulents, gifts, and artisan-made goods. 

This winter, Linda is preparing her new space and will be reopening this March! Check back for updates on an official opening date and photos of her new store. 

 

Shrine Gallery will start regular hours in March

Open by appointment only this winter, the Shrine Gallery will be announcing its new regular store hours in March.

In the space next to the Shrine Gallery, there is a courtyard that Athena and Jay have been working to turn into a gathering space once the weather gets nicer. This area will host markets, live performers, guest wellness practitioners, and more once the weather gets nicer.
