With this blog. I hope to help people discover the beauty of living here — year-round, or for a season. And, if you’re in the market to buy or sell a home, I hope to work with you.

A Little About Me

The first time I visited Pacific City was on a road trip. Six months later, I moved here.

I grew up in New Jersey. I was raised in the suburbs in a town called Madison. Then I attended Hofstra University on Long Island. After college, I worked in New York City until the commute eventually got to me. I started working from home part-time before the pandemic, then after it hit, I worked 100% remotely.

Pacific City is the polar opposite of any place I ever lived. Madison, where I grew up, was about 4 square miles with approximately 17,000 people living there. For context, Pacific City is also about 4 square miles and has around 1,200 full-time residents.

Why Pacific City?

Pacific City Pathways by Sharlys Leszczuk

Pacific City is the perfect coastal hideaway. Unlike the busy Jersey shore towns that I’m used to, the beach here – even on the busiest day – feels quiet and serene. I am also entranced by the beautiful, endless scenery – dunes, rainforests, dramatic cliffs, rivers, winding forest roads, the ocean, and mountains. Plus, given its proximity to any outdoor activity I could ever imagine, Pacific City is the perfect home for me.

I always envisioned myself living on the West Coast. If you asked me 10 years ago where I wanted to live, I would have told you California. But after spending lots of time traveling there, the cost of living was impossible for me to justify.

Work in Pacific City: Real Estate Agent, Publicist, Coach, Volunteer

My first visit to Pacific City followed a major career shift. After a decade of working for New York City PR firms as a publicist, I quit full-time agency life to freelance instead. Now, I own my own PR consultancy based here on the coast. In this role, I work with West Coast-based companies to provide publicity services and communications counsel.

After almost two years of living here, I became a Pacific City, Oregon real estate agent. I also juggle part-time work as the girls’ JV volleyball coach at Nestucca High School and substitute teaching.

And, I love to volunteer! I’m Vice Chair of the Pacific City-Woods Citizens Advisory Committee (CAC), a forum to preserve and enhance the quality of life and livability in Pacific City, Woods, and all of Tillamook County.

Working here does require hustle, patience, and creativity if don’t have a remote “city job”. But it’s a prominent second-home and vacation-home market, so there are tons of opportunities to start or join a business here, especially in travel and hospitality.

My Favorite Season in Pacific City

Chucho enjoys a beach day with his friend Margot.

My favorite season on the Oregon Coast is late summer/early fall. September and October are my favorite months here. That’s when things quiet down, when kids go back to school, and residents can enjoy the “local summer”. The weather holds up for the most part during these two months. It rarely rains, it’s still warm, the days are long, and the social scene is still lively.

I also have a special place in my heart for the winter. My dog loves to run off-leash, and this is the season when all the hiking trails quiet down. We can run and roam without worrying about encountering any unfriendly dogs.

My Favorite Pacific City Activity

Being outside. Sun, rain, warm, cold doesn’t matter to me. As long as I have the right gear, I want to be outside. When it’s rainy or windy, my go-to outdoor activity is a covered hike or trail run. I also enjoy taking photos of the landscapes and views all around Pacific City. Many are featured on my personal Instagram page: @thereshargoes
